In 1966, the Milan section of the National Alpine Association (Associazione Nazionale Alpini), with the support of the Orobica Alpine Brigade, organized a mountaineering ascent towards Punta San Matteo, a peak in the Ortles-Cevedale Group in the Southern Rhaetian Alps, along the border between Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige, south of Monte Vioz. The footage by Don Vitalini documents the demanding itinerary that crosses the Berni Hut, the Dosecù Glacier, Monte Mantello, and mixed slopes of snow and rock. The shots show the roped group, equipped with ice axes, backpacks, and period technical clothing, tackling steep and snowy sections, alternating with moments of rest and refreshment. The sequence culminates with the mountaineers advancing closely together on a snowy plateau, immersed in a majestic panorama of alpine peaks, celebrating the spirit of discipline, effort, and collaboration typical of Italian mountaineering in the 1960s.
