In 1955, De Riso filmed an early-morning departure from a high-altitude refuge on the Monte Rosa massif, recognizable as the historic Capanna Quintino Sella—then an important base for alpinists and today used as a winter bivouac. The clip opens with wide views of the peaks lit by the first sunlight, rising above a “sea of clouds,” a characteristic sight of high elevations at dawn. On the terrace of the refuge, Teresa, wrapped in light-colored clothing, appears in the soft morning light, standing out against the dark silhouette of the building and the white snow. Mario smiles at the camera as he adjusts his gear. Together with a third companion, the two set off again, roped together on the glacier, moving with ropes and ice axes along the snowy slopes.
