In the summer of 1964, Giuseppe Lenzi documented the ascent to Piz Boè in the Sella Group. Using an 8mm camera, he follows his own and his friends’ progress along the long and strenuous Sella scree, a vast rocky slope leading to the summit. The footage shows the hikers’ slow but determined steps across the scree amid breathtaking panoramas, while the filmmaker’s voice-over narrates the effort and wonder of the journey, capturing the authentic spirit of Dolomite mountaineering in the 1960s.
