Between 1953 and 1977, the ancient Sanctuary of Tindari - the previous location of the revered statue of the Black Madonna - was expanded and incorporated into the current Santuario Moderno (Modern Sanctuary), a new structure that now houses the statue. These valuable images partly reconstruct that moment of passage, picturing erect scaffolding and construction work around the ancient, small church, and a lively market, extending from that point to the small road leading to the town.
