An archive selection with added live sound where women’s work is captured by the amateurs’ gaze from the 1920s through the 1970s. The factory, the fields, the house, the offices, the school: the women’s act, long invisible, resurfaces with the strength of private images. Act of care, of precision, of joy. Act of a memory which rewrites the present.

The images are drawn from 25 film collections preserved by Home Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia, with the only exception of the Collection Franco Cigariniconserved at the Panizzi Libary; and with the exception of some excerpts from collections more involved with business history, mostly for promotional purposes, all the materials belong to family collections where the women’s doing resurfaces in several contexts which, however, falls into the traditional image of female work.

The Women’s Act is am archive selection curated by Giulia Simi and Michele Manzolini, with added live music by the Effetto Bramaensemble presented in preview during Archivio Aperto 2020Festival.

A production byHome Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia with the support ofMAST – Manifattura di Arti, Sperimentazione e Tecnologia and in collaboration with Kinè.
