In 1954, Costantino Sabelli filmed an excursion on Vesuvius in 8mm. The sequence opens with shots from the moving car along the road ascending toward the volcano. A woman exits the cable car structure and joins a group that continues on foot along a steep path of earth and ash, typical of the Vesuvian slopes. A group of women pose, smiling for the camera, standing on a rocky area where one woman has bent down to touch the volcanic soil. The central part shows wide views of the dark flanks of Vesuvius, shrouded in fog or vapor. The clip closes with some people filmed in silhouette on the crater's edge, against the bright sky.
