In 1949, Mario Fantin documented the preparations for the ascent of Mont Blanc. The clip opens with a tribute to the guide G. Petigaz and his nephew Julien, who would accompany Fantin, while newspaper clippings recall recent tragedies on the summit.
Subtitles introduce the geography of the undertaking: the climbing routes, the glaciers, the ridges, and key points such as Courmayeur, Rifugio Torino (Torino Refuge), and Aiguille du Midi. The filmmaker shows his choice of the panoramic route on the Italian side and, finally, the French side with Cap. Midi (referencing the Aiguille du Midi/Mont Blanc massif), preparing the viewer for the journey towards the summit.
